EX- MAPPER TO RELEASE BOOK ON HOW HOW MAKE IT IN THE FILM INDUSTRY

6a1f89_9f55147b6daa40549f559ee4ca88da18-mv2

To be released this October, 2010 graduate, Matthew Webb, has written a detailed guide on how to break into the film industry and remain relevant. This is what he has to say:

I am a 2010 MAP graduate and have since been working as an Assistant Director on features such as The Great Gatsby, Mad Max: Fury Road, Pirates of the Caribbean and Alien: Covenant. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some amazing people, and it’s been terrific to see other MAP graduates doing so well and entering the industry just like me.

Over the last 18 months I’ve written a book called Setlife: A Guide to Getting a Job in Film (And Keeping It). Its aim is to prepare film school graduates for the crazy and fast-paced world of film sets. It is pretty much everything I wish I knew before I started and what I’ve learnt in the last 6 years. It contains simple explanations and tips on not only what to expect when applying for your first job in the film industry, but how to excel at it and stay ahead.

Crowd Funding – Top Tips

shutterstock_305221517

Everyone is running a crowd funding campaign these days. Considering that we’re getting to the pointy end of the semester, and more MAP projects being produced than ever before, it seems timely to include some info. on crowd funding success. This Forbes article offers some handy advice on making sure you reach your target. In summary, they emphasise:

  1. Audience engagement : know your audience well. Don’t simply rely on blanket social media posts. Know where your audience is online. Know what they’re specifically interested in.
  2. Find a balance between fact and emotion: when appealing for donations, provide your target audience with both information on the project/film itself AND make sure you hit that emotional spot (this is how people will feel obliged to throw some cash dollars your way).
  3. Focus on what’s in it for them – it’s not all about you. Your audience needs those incentives to hit ‘donate’!
