Sydney Latin American Film Festival Pre Fest Cine Lounge

In anticipation for the official film festival beginning on September 8th 2016, SLAFF is proud to present Cine Lounge: a month long series of Latin American film and culture sessions held at the funky 107 projects in Redfern starting from Friday the 29th of July. Featuring an amazing line-up of traditional and contemporary Latin influences in music, dance and film, these much loved sessions embrace SLAFF’s belief that cinema is an immersive cultural experience for all.

Their opening session on Friday the 29th of July will open with the haunting, Kafka-esque Chilean featiure I am not Lorena.

The evening will feature a mix of traditional and contemporary Latin American soundscapes by recently returned Chilean favourite, producer and musician, Pato Lara. There will also be a selection of flavoursome Chilean bites and empanadas to enjoy throughout the evening.

Description:

Looking for an outgoing, can-do media graduate or similar for our post production studios.

This is a supporting role to the producers, which involves hands-on experience across a broad range of production areas. Definitely a good slab of admin duties involved plus on-the-job training in video editing, motion graphics, audio production and everything in-between.

You’ll already know a lot about video and audio production in both broadcast and online platforms, with a solid understanding of file formats,codecs, TV, radio and online standards. Preferably you’ll also have skills with editing software, Photoshop and AfterFX.

You’ll be very computer savvy with PC & MAC platforms, quick at learning new programs and not afraid to get your hands dirty.

You’ll also have a keen creative eye and a burning desire to become a producer in the real world.

Abe Forsythe’s Film ‘Down Under’ will be screened at SFF

A recently published Sydney Morning Herald Article provides movie-goers with a great breakdown of 20 recommended films from the various categories and genres on offer. Gillian Leahy’s Baxter and Me is one of the 20 which gets a good write up as a must see documentary at this year’s festival. The article is definitely worth a read, especially if you are yet to decide on what films to attend this year. Some are selling fast, others have sold out, so get your program lined up and clear your schedule for the next 2 weeks as the festival is only a couple of days away!

I’m sure some of you have heard of this already, but the Indie Film Hustle Podcast is really a must-listen-to. It’s free and a new episode is provided weekly. You can subscribe through iTunes and other podcast streaming services. The information is raw, candid and honest and the tips and guide to filmmaking is relevant to students who will be working on low-budget productions. The episodes which deal with entering into film festivals and other distribution platforms is particularly timely for those currently wrapping up MAP Major Project.

Now in its third year, My RØDE Reel is an international short film competition hosted by RØDE Microphones and a select team of partners, designed to encourage and promote independent filmmakers.

Volunteers Wanted: Make Nice Conference in June

The inaugural ‘Make Nice’ Conference is looking for volunteers in the areas of production, styling and managerial positions

What it’s all about:

Make Nice is an event for creative women to learn from creative women in an intimate un-conference environment with an exclusive lineup of creative talent – including Leslie David (FRA), Adi Goodrich (USA), Elizabeth Weinberg (USA), Suzy Tuxen (AUS), and Brodie Lancaster (AUS).

Make Nice will be a casual and informal series of chats and discussions, based on a participant driven, knowledge sharing model with those who have a high level of expertise in their field. As
a not-for-profit platform the inaugural year will be limited to an intimate group of 150 women from across Australia to create a participatory, supportive, and helpful exchange.

Position Details:

– Production Volunteers – must be tech-minded, AV savvy and have a current drivers license.

– Styling Volunteers – must have an interest in interiors, an eye for detail and a current drivers license.

– Front of House Volunteers – must be obscenely friendly, have some kind of customer service experience and ideally an RSA.

All volunteers will get to sit in on the un-conference programming for free and rub shoulders with super impressive creative women.
