We always hear people say 'Well I'm a cat person' or 'I'm a dog person' but what does it mean to be a rabbit person?

This scrollable website explores my obsession with my pet rabbits. In doing so it shows how domestic rabbits make my  ideal  house hold pets.

Rabbits can make wonderful pets for the right people for instance those that lead busy lives and desire a quiet and affectionate pet.

By nature rabbits are known to be skittish, but with proper socialization they are able to adopt obedient characteristics similar to dogs. For example my two house bunnies Biscuit and Pebbles have been taught tricks, to respond to their names and to also use dog flaps.

TRUE OR FALSE?

A rabbit is best kept in a hutch. It is a cage animal and should not be too free to roam.

Vegan food is often identified as 'rabbit food', and for me this is especially true. Grocery shopping has never been easier when you know that your kids, in my case - Biscuit and Pebbles, eat what I eat.

A rabbits digestive tract is also extremely sensitive. They need to constantly be eating fresh produce, particularly vegetables and hay, to ensure that no blockages occur in their gastrointestinal tracts. A hungry bunny is not a happy or healthy bunny. Forgetting to feed your bunnies fresh produce may result in a series of fatal consequences.

Given time and freedom, a new rabbit to any household can quickly become a life long companion. The most interesting aspect about rabbit companionships is the fact that they form extremely strong bonds with their loved ones. A rabbit forms such relational bonds by 'selecting' their partners. That's the beauty of having a rabbit as a companion as opposed to a dog - you can't force their love, they choose you. In this regard they're much like lovebirds, when one partner dies the other will die with it.

Although bonding takes a lot of time and socialization, the end result is extremely rewarding. It is only through bonding with your rabbit that you are truly able to see what their huge personalities have to offer.

Believe it or not domesticated bunnies can be taught to use litter boxes just like cats. Both Biscuit and Pebbles were taught to use litter-boxes when they were just 3 months old. A rabbits remarkable intellect and self-hygiene makes them an ideal pet to keep indoors, as opposed to having a dog which would require you to walk that extra distance for potty time.

Rabbits can also be low maintenance pets in the way that they do not require frequent baths as they clean themselves. This is ideal for me as it gives me more time and freedom to do other things than worry about Biscuit and Pebbles bath time.

TRUE OR FALSE?

A rabbit should never be bathed as it makes it more prone to developing illnesses.
